Our Birth Story: Part 1

So we went in for our weekly check up on May 7th with Dr. McKinnie to see how things were going and there was a concern that I was spilling protien in my urine and had some hypertension. I was scheduled for an induction with Dr. McKinnie for the following Wednesday, but Allen and I were planning to ask if we could move the induction day to Friday the 9th because we were getting nervous of waiting too long and something happening.

Dr. McKinnie decided to send us to triage for observation to make sure I wasn't developing preeclampsia. When we voiced our concern, we all decided that we'd go ahead and start the induction a week early!!

So we left the office, stopped at Publix to get snacks for Allen and the headed home to pack up and feed the dogs. Then we headed to the Women's Pavillion to start the party.

We saw Dr. McAlpine and he talked us through what was about to happen.

We got everything started and then Allen and I started watching movies. All the old classic Star Trek movies. Yes!

About 2:30pm Thursday Dr. McKinnie stopped by to see how things were going and broke my water. She said she was planning to come back and help deliver if she could, so we settled in to wait it all out.

Dr. Brickler was on duty and came to check me several times and found that I'd dialated to 4cm with me noticing very little was going on.

We got our epidural shortly after that and met Kevin, our anesthetist. He was pretty awesome. Allen doesn't meet strangers and I'm pretty sure neither does Kevin. They hit it off and talked the whole time Kevin was hooking me up.

After the epidural was in we settled down for more waiting....watching movies and taking naps.

We have a Pintrest worthy Nursery!

I am so excited about our nursery. It has come together so beautiful! It is truly inspired by and Pintrest worthy.

Here is the first view from the door. The rug, laundry basket, and stuffed animals on the changing table are from Pottery Barn kids. The picture frames were bought at Debbie's Jewels in Perry, Florida.

Full picture of the rug. Has all my colors in it!!

The curtains, and lamp are from Pottery Barn Kids. The quilt and chair pillows were made by my mom (aka Nana) the chair was bought at a local store and is a Lazy Boy rocker Recliner.

Nana was finishing the border of the quilt for the table.

The mobile over the chair was purchased from LoveBugLullabies on Etsy. All the tiny butterfly wall decals are from Pottery Barn Kinds too.

All that's left for us to do now is put their names on the wall....but I won't do that until after they're here.... ;)

Huge thank you again to Aunt Kathleen and Uncle David for purchasing all our furniture!

And thank you to my Mama for getting together the wall decorations and finishing touches. She just has a great eye for decorating. (And April, my other Mother who helped!)

Mama and I are working on decorations now!

Amazing how 2 cribs took up so much space!!

So excited to see the girls in their special room!

We are currently 29 weeks...will be 30 weeks on Sunday. Which will put us at hopefully 8 weeks left!!!!! Yikes! That will be about Mother's Day. Which would be awesome!

We are excited!

A little paint goes a long way…

So Allen did a fantastic job painting our nursery. He got 2 coats painted on all the walls and we LOVE the color! It even has a great name…”Sassy Lilac”. LOVE it!!

Allen took the built in shelving out of the closet, and then pondered where to start.
IMG_2655
He decided with doing the trim work first….
IMG_2658
…with a little liquid help…..his favorite scotch I’m sure….
IMG_2660
He decided to tape the ceiling to be on the safe side.
IMG_2666
Getting the closet started.
IMG_2668
He did make fast progress of the walls, and got 2 coats on by the time our reinforcements (a.k.a Daddy/Poppy) got there.
IMG_2669
Getting the built in shelves put back in was the easy part. Getting the drawers in was another story.
IMG_2670
Even got Daddy to scratching his head. It was like a puzzle getting them in the right positions.
IMG_2671
Here is a picture of the beautiful dresser/changing table. Looks good against the wall color!
IMG_2672
Opening the 1st crib. Very well packaged!
IMG_2674IMG_2675
My job done, I sort the pieces and get them organized for ease of assembly.

IMG_2680
And we’re done!!
IMG_2682
Looks good right!!!???!
IMG_2683
2nd one went so much faster!!!
IMG_2684IMG_2685
And here we are! All 3 pieces assembled and look so pretty!!!!
IMG_2686
I am going to have to work on the furniture arrangement so I can put my chair in there, we’ve got a lot in there! But this is so exciting seeing everything coming together.

Mama (Nana) and I are going shopping for some decorations, then it will be time to stock and make sure that everything is ready for the girls’ arrival!

Nursery Update #2….

After consulting with Aunt Kathleen a little on the colors, we took her advice and painted huge swatches of color on separate walls to get a better feel for what we wanted our nursery to be painted. It was hard to choose between the 2….They look very similar, but have a distinct difference when you get a good look at them.
IMG_2631
Allen left me a sweet message after repainting the sample colors.
IMG_2632
As you can see we still haven’t fully cleaned out the nursery yet…..oopsie…
We pushed the stand in crib against the wall to test the color. This isn’t our crib. The ones that Aunt Kathleen and Uncle David gifted us (with our grandparents help) are beautiful!! You’ll see those soon!
IMG_2633
I decided I needed to see more furniture in the room so we decided to put together the dresser/changing table. (A 4 hour process with 2 food breaks for me-haha!)
IMG_2634IMG_2636
One side completed and working on side #2.
IMG_2637
Putting the frame together.
IMG_2638
Putting the backing on.
IMG_2639
Drawers were easy after all the little small parts!
IMG_2640
I somehow didn’t get a finished picture, but you’ll see it soon!

And the color choice is…..you’ll have to check back for the next installment of our nursery update!!!!

This is absolutely BEAUTIFUL furniture. Sturdy and a great color!!! We thank our Aunt Kathleen and Uncle David again for their very sweet and thoughtful gift to our little girls!

Nursery in progress…

Before I get started, we just wanted to say a HUGE thank you to our Aunt Kathleen and Uncle David for their gift of the nursery to our little girls. Their gift with help from our grandparents (Nana and Grandpa, Grandmother Allen, and Granny) we have been blessed with a beautiful nursery to bring our girls home to.

Wanted to share with you all on our recent progress...furniture still scheduled to be delivered TOMORROW (Monday (February 10th))! I can't wait!

We went to register for our upcoming baby showers at Target and Babies r us. While at Babies r us I think I found my chair!
IMG_2602
I'd like it in gray, but the cream color was pretty too. It was soooo comfortable. I sank down into it and didn't want to get back up. I need to look it up on their website and read reviews. But I'm pretty sure this is the one!! And it does have a matching ottoman to go with it.  After we left Babies r us, we went by Lowe's to pick out paint colors. We saw 2 we liked so we got samples and Allen painted them on 2 walls so we could try to decide which will work best. I'm leaning more towards the lighter color because of the dark furniture. But the Sassy Lilac (darker color is so pretty too!) we still need to clean out the room...but it won't take long.
IMG_2603
Its just a mess. We used it to put our tax papers together.
IMG_2604
This shows the built-ins we have in the closet. We need to pull them out so we can paint the closet too, and clean real good.
IMG_2615
The color on the left is the one I'm thinking we may go with. The one on the right is darker than it looks in this picture.
IMG_2616
Excited to see everything coming together!
I’ll be updating again soon. I’m posting this late….this all actually took place on February 9, 2014
